How is it JULY?

Like, I know how time works. I’m not entirely naive. But seriously, wasn’t it March just last week? How did we get here so fast? Ugh.

I have worked out some plans for the back half of the year, but I’ll have to really push hard to keep them going. I want to actually publish some of the stories I’ve been poking at and also catch up on the housekeeping stuff I’ve been ignoring.

The weather here has been confusing. We haven’t had the intense heat that other places have (cross my fingers and toes for luck), but there’ve been enough miserably hot days to make things uncomfortable. My chickens, who all are wearing heavy down coats, are not happy about this. They’re also digging a trench through their run, in which they lie in clumps, all wiggling and writhing around to dust bathe.

If you haven’t seen a chicken dust bathing, here’s a short video. (These are not my chickens.)

I’ve had health stuff going on, which is part of where the first half of the year went. Nothing major, just time-consuming and dreary. It takes over, the dreariness, and then I find myself at the end of the day with very little finished. Maybe that’s the first thing I should work on, other than writing: One thing per week which is Just For Fun.

I think I’ll start with finishing some paintings. I saw someone online painting ‘midcentury’ style florals and realized that I’d love to have those. One of my Yearly Goals was to make more art for the house. After poking around online for inspiration, I’ve started three. I don’t know where I’ll hang them, but I’m looking forward to seeing them on the wall.
